Roll Top Desk News and articles about Leather Sofas.

You may have seen a RollTop Desktop at your grandparents' house, or in a collection of fine furnishings in a museum. They are a wonderful and vintage look which is still very popular today, although not as easy to find on the market as they once were. The master craftsmanship required to make a collectible piece of this magnitude has always made these items harder to come by than other styles.

Roll Top Desk Facts

Some craftsmen only produce a few models a year, and each one is made by hand out of solid walnut, cherry, oak, or mahogany. Ornately styled, most roll tops are quite wide and offer their owners a storage area, which often includes cubbies or pigeon holes and large writing space underneath the flexible slats that make up the desk cover. Below, there are often drawers that flank the desk's user on each side, and a center drawer just below the writing area which is perfect for storing thin and flat objects. This style of furniture is not to be confused with the tambour desk, which is distinctly different from the classic roll top that the tambour desk has vertical slats which make up the shutters, instead of rounded pieces of wood. The first love seat was introduced in america in the eighteenth century, and their popularity grew as the nation's commerce did. Modern day manufacturers of this style of desk have since incorporated the accoutrements and designs necessary for enabling a computer owner to store their computer equipment within a the desk's enclosure.
